What are Cataracts?A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. When the lens becomes cloudy, light rays cannot pass through it easily, and vision is blurred. Cataracts can lead to partial vision loss and blurring, which can prevent you from being able to carry out day-to-day activities. Left untreated, complete loss of vision can also result. In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed from the eye through a small surgical incision, and the lens is usually replaced with a permanent intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
